Basketball Recap: Volunteer Comes Up Short

Volunteer played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 54-15 loss at the hands of the Greeneville Greene Devils. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Greene Devils are ranked 55th).

Scarlett McClaran was Volunteer's leading scorer, having posted six points. Courtney Bellamy took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Greeneville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maria Lyde out in front who went 6-for-8 on her way to 15 points along with five assists and four blocks. The game was Lyde's fifth in a row with at least 15 points. Kyla Jobe was another key player, going 5-for-7 to rack up 11 points in addition to eight assists and three steals.

Volunteer's defeat dropped their record down to 14-16. As for Greeneville, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 17-9.

Volunteer didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-39 loss against Grainger on the 22nd. As for Greeneville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 55-52 defeat against Cocke County on the 14th.
