Softball Recap: West Springfield Comes Up Short

West Springfield had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-4 to make it four. They lost 16-2 to the Hampshire Regional Raiders. If the Terriers were looking for revenge after losing 17-4 to the Raiders when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Hampshire Regional, the win keeps they at an undefeated 9-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Hampshire Regional's part, Rachael Hickox made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hickox has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Teagan Charles, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Kalin Dubay4 was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, West Springfield will head out on the road to face off against Holyoke at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Terriers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Purple Knights have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season. As for Hampshire Regional, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Westfield at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
