Baseball Recap: Seventy-First Comes Up Short

After flying high against E.E. Smith last Wednesday, Seventy-First came back down to earth. The Seventy-First Falcons lost 11-4 to the Jack Britt Buccaneers on Friday. The Falcons were not able to make up for their loss to the Buccaneers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Shawn Carroll put in work no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. He has become a key player for Seventy-First: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-5 otherwise.

Carroll wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nasir Nelson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Seventy-First dropped their record down to 2-6 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Jack Britt, their record is now 5-2.

Coming up, Seventy-First will take on Purnell Swett at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Purnell Swett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Jack Britt, they will challenge Cape Fear at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cape Fear also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 9 runs per game.
