St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) opened its season with a bang, routing Booker T. Washington (Miami) 35-3 in a game televised nationally on ESPN.

The loss snapped Booker T. Washington's 41-game winning streak, and gave Aquinas a victory over a Dade County power whom many fans had been clamoring to see it play.

Miami commit Sam Bruce had two touchdowns to lead the way for Aquinas, which entered the game as the nation's No. 8-ranked team.

With a three-yard touchdown run by Devontae Henry-Cole, Aquinas jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and never looked back. Bruce's touchdown extended the lead to 14-0. The Raiders scored again in the second quarter to make it 21-0 at the half.

It was Booker T. Washington's first loss since September 8, 2012, when it endured a 37-26 setback against Miami Central. It went on to capture a state title that season -- and a national title the next.

Tonight confirmed that a national crown is exactly what St. Thomas Aquinas will be chasing this season.
