Poly extends home winning streak to eight

Recap: Poly Parrots vs. Verdugo Hills Dons

There's no place like home for the Poly Parrots, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Verdugo Hills 59-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Poly has posted since December 4, 2023.

It was another big night for JD Wyatt, who scored 29 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Poly's points. Another player making a difference was Jao Libunao, who scored nine points along with four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Verdugo Hills lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Alexander Martinez. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of William Gharabekyan, who scored 11 points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Verdugo Hills were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poly only posted eight assists.

Poly pushed their record up to 8-14 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Verdugo Hills, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.

Poly will be playing in front of their home fans against Grant at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Grant presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Poly in California (Grant is ranked 262nd, while Poly is ranked 680th). As for Verdugo Hills, they will head out on the road to challenge Arleta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
