The Richmond Red Devils will take on the Monroe Central Golden Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Richmond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Richmond is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Saturday. They fell 7-2 to East Central.
Richmond saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zander Juday, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Logan Belanga, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monroe Central). They put the hurt on Elwood with a sharp 15-3 victory on Monday. The Golden Bears not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24, 2025 (when they won 17-1).
Monroe Central got a massive performance out of Caleb Luedike, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Luedike has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jed Ferguson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Monroe Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Monroe Central, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Richmond has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Monroe Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Richmond beat Monroe Central 7-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Golden Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
