Recap: Tampa Catholic Crusaders vs. Fort Myers Green Wave
If The Tampa Catholic Crusaders were riding high off their 38-17 takedown of the Blake Yellow Jackets last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Tampa Catholic fell just short of Fort Myers by a score of 51-48. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (38), Tampa Catholic still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Tampa Catholic still got an impressive performance from Trey Hedden, who threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Tj Moore was in the mix too, providing Tampa Catholic with two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Tampa Catholic's defensive line still kept up the pressure with 4.5 sacks. Leading the way was Xavier Porter and his two sacks.
Chris Mcfoley had an outrageously good game for Fort Myers as he rushed for 186 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 245 yards and four touchdowns on only 16 passes. Mcfoley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards. Frank Starks also helped out as he racked up 157 rushing yards.
Tampa Catholic's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-4. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Fort Myers, Robinson, and Berkeley Prep. As for Fort Myers, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Tampa Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Jefferson is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. As for Fort Myers, they will head out on the road to face off against Cypress Lake at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Cypress Lake comes in on a streak of failing to score more than three points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
