Basketball Recap: Coronado's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Coronado had lost three straight headed into Friday's contest, but Kailyn Holsey didn't let it get to four. The Coronado Dons snuck past the Desert Sunrise Golden Hawks with a 47-41 win on Friday thanks in part to Holsey, who dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 14 rebounds, and ten steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.

Another player making a difference was Miranda Moreno, who posted eight points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (four).

Desert Sunrise lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tessani Montgomery, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards. That was a full 36.6% of Desert Sunrise's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Shayla Hill was another key player, putting up nine points and five steals.

Coronado's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Desert Sunrise, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Coronado has already played their next game, a 51-43 defeat against Cortez on the 28th. As for Desert Sunrise, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-46 loss against Yuma on the 28th.
