Softball Game Preview: Bellbrook Golden Eagles vs. Newton Local Indians

The Bellbrook Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Newton Local Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Bellbrook is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Bellbrook didn't have quite enough to beat Franklin and fell 2-1. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Abigail Hebrank (2028) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bellbrook saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Quinn O'Brien, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Newton Local got their first taste of in-conference action on Tuesday and they started things off strong. They put the hurt on Mississinawa Valley with a sharp 9-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Newton Local pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bellbrook, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-7.

Everything went Bellbrook's way against Newton Local when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Bellbrook made off with a 15-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
