Baseball Recap: Cannon Has No Trouble Against Charlotte Country Day School

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Cannon and Charlotte Country Day School meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Buccaneers. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Buccaneers, too.

Thomas Smith looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Cannon: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 4-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Cannon got a massive performance out of Mason Mierzwa, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Mierzwa has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grogan Kelley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cannon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Charlotte Country Day School only managed eight hits.

Cannon's record now sits at 7-11. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they dropped their record down to 5-19 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home.

Cannon will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Buccaneers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
