Baseball Recap: Versailles Has No Trouble Against Celina

After only one run in their last match, Versailles made sure to put some runs up on the board against Celina on Monday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Tigers have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Versailles got a great performance from Owen Mendenhall as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Deland, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Subler, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Versailles is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Celina, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Versailles will square off against New Bremen at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Celina, they will face off against Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Roughriders' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
