Softball Recap: Cyprus Finds Playoff Glory Versus Kearns

Cyprus extended their postseason success on Monday against Kearns. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Breelyn ( Bree ) Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ajla Hadzialijagic, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Frankee Kelsch was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Cyprus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearns only posted an OBP of .176.

The victory was the third in a row for Cyprus, bringing their record up to 15-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Kearns, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-16.

As of now, neither Cyprus nor the Cougars have any future games scheduled.
