Baseball Game Preview: Sahuaro Cougars vs. Poston Butte Broncos

The Sahuaro Cougars will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Poston Butte Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sahuaro has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Sahuaro managed to slip by Pueblo the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Sahuaro came up short against Pueblo on Monday, falling 13-0.

Sahuaro saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Taitano, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. That double was Taitano's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Poston Butte didn't have quite enough to beat Apache Junction on Monday and fell 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Broncos have lost by just one run.

Wyatt Albertson put in work no matter where he played. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Albertson was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Isael Aguilera made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Even though they lost, Poston Butte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

This is the second loss in a row for Poston Butte and nudges their season record down to 3-6. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Sahuaro, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8-1.
