Football Preview: Deary Mustangs vs. Genesee/Colton WA
The Deary Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against Genesee/Colton WA at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Deary is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Lewis County co-op [Highland/Nezperce], who was ranked 25th at the time (Deary was ranked 20th). The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 48-28 margin over Lewis County co-op [Highland/Nezperce] on Friday. The Mustangs pushed the score to 36-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Lewis County co-op [Highland/Nezperce] cut but never quite recovered from.

Deary found their leader in sophomore Jarrett Keen, who rushed for 165 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also threw for 83 yards and a pair of TDs. Keen's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Cooper Dammerman helped out on the ground, rushing for 99 yards.
Deary was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 291 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.
Deary didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Mechling and Nolan Hubbard. Mechling got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Genesee/Colton WA strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Timberline as they made off with a 54-32 win. The result was nothing new for Genesee/Colton WA, who have now won five contests by 22 points or more so far this season.
The victory got Deary back to even at 4-4. As for Genesee/Colton WA, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.
Deary took their victory against Genesee/Colton WA in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 42-20 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
