Recap: Phoenix Spartans vs. Newman Greenies
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Phoenix Spartans ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They snuck past Newman with a 49-43 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Phoenix.
Phoenix found their leader in underclassman Da'cora Burton, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Jamiya Addison was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Phoenix now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Newman, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.
Phoenix won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against St. Mary's Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Louisiana (St. Mary's Academy is ranked 156th, while Phoenix is ranked 177th). Newman will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against St. Mary's Dominican at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th.
