Santa Fe is a perfect 10-0 against Ball since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Santa Fe Indians are taking a road trip to take on the Ball Tornadoes at 6:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Santa Fe proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by eight) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Bridge City. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since February 14th.
Santa Fe saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Williams, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Williams a new career-high in RBI (two). Another was Stella Rippard, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Ball ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Iowa Colony, sneaking past 2-1. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Tornadoes as it put an end to their ten-game losing streak.
Klarisa Martinez made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one double.
The win got Santa Fe back to even at 8-8. As for Ball, their record now sits at 2-10.
Ball's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Santa Fe hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. It's a different story for Ball, though, as they've only averaged .236. Will they be able to contain Santa Fe's hitters?
Santa Fe was able to grind out a solid victory over Ball when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 6-2. Will Santa Fe repeat their success, or does Ball have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
