Basketball Recap: Gates County Takes a Loss

Gates County was the 61-48 winner over Perquimans when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Gates County Red Barons were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 59-58 to the Perquimans Pirates. The Red Barons were up 49-35 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Xavier Spellman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Perquimans, putting up 26 points. The dominant performance gave Spellman a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Nyquan Riddick, who posted seven points in addition to eight assists and six steals.

Gates County dropped their record down to 6-11 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Perquimans, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-16.

Gates County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-45 loss against Martin County on the 4th. As for Perquimans, they have also already played their next contest, a 69-45 defeat against North Pitt on the 5th.
