Plattsburgh has gone a perfect 10-0 against Moriah recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Hornets will host the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Plattsburgh is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
While Plattsburgh's win against Saranac Lake wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hornets narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Red Storm 3-1. The three-run effort marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Dan Hartmann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Plattsburgh secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Braeden Calkins, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Moriah came up short against Plattsburgh on Tuesday, falling 16-8. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Joe Pelkey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Jacob Mascarenas was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
The victory was the third in a row for Plattsburgh, bringing their record up to 4-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Moriah, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Moriah's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Plattsburgh has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Moriah, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Plattsburgh's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Plattsburgh took their victory against Moriah in their previous matchup on Tuesday by a conclusive 16-8 score. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
