Baseball Recap: Concord Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Concord had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Wawasee Warriors a 5-0 shutout on Monday. This was payback for the Minutemen, who suffered a 3-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Not much got past Joey Hauger, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Wawasee off the board. Hauger also tossed no walks, which is notable because Concord is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Concord let Noah Norwood and Troy Deaton run wild. Norwood got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Deaton went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Deaton has become a key player for Concord: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Parker Schrock, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Concord's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Wawasee, they dropped their record down to 0-11 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.
