Baseball Game Preview: Freeburg Midgets vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

Freeburg is a perfect 3-0 against Mt. Vernon since June of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Midgets will head out on the road to challenge the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Freeburg is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Triad just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 6-3 to the Knights.

Freeburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Higgins, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Mt. Vernon was a bit more limited in their matchup on Wednesday. They fell just short of Salem by a score of 3-1. The Rams have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 12-17. As for Freeburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-14.

Freeburg beat Mt. Vernon 5-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Midgets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
