Basketball Game Preview: Phoenix Academy Firebirds vs. Cornerstone Charter Cardinals

Two dominant guards in Chayse Gallo and Charles Walker are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Phoenix Academy Firebirds will host the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cornerstone Charter took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Phoenix Academy, who comes in off a win.

Phoenix Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They managed a 72-68 win over Northwood Academy on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Firebirds as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Cornerstone Charter took on Piedmont Classical two weeks ago. Cornerstone Charter took a 44-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Piedmont Classical. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Bobcats recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Phoenix Academy will need focus on slowing down Walker, one of several Cornerstone Charter players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 of 8 en route to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Smith, who posted seven points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.

Cornerstone Charter's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4. As for Phoenix Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.
