Softball Game Preview: Orestimba Warriors vs. Hughson Huskies

The Orestimba Warriors will face off against the Hughson Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Orestimba will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Orestimba proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 13) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Ripon 2-1.

Hailey Starr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Orestimba's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lily Rocha, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Rocha has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Hughson hadn't done well against Escalon recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Huskies came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 7-2.

Hughson also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kylie Tangney gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.

Hughson has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Orestimba, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.
