Basketball Recap: Calvin Jacquays' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Central Valley Academy over Whitesboro

Central Valley Academy was the 77-42 winner over Whitesboro when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Central Valley Academy Thunder fell to the Whitesboro Warriors 55-50. While the Thunder didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 16-9 in the first quarter.

Central Valley Academy lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Calvin Jacquays, who posted 18 points and three steals. The game was Jacquays' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brayden Smalls, who went 6 of 12 en route to 16 points along with five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Central Valley Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Central Valley Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-3 record this season. As for Whitesboro, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central Valley Academy will host Camden at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central Valley Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season. As for Whitesboro, they will challenge Proctor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Proctor will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Whitesboro surely won't give up without a fight.
