Basketball Recap: Walter Northway Drops Highest Score of Season Against Fort Yukon

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Walter Northway). They had just enough and edged the Fort Yukon Eagles out 54-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since January 11, 2024.

Fort Yukon lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nellie Ward, who posted 17 points. The match was Ward's third in a row with at least ten points. Jane Ward was another key player, putting up 16 points.

The win made it two in a row for Walter Northway and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Fort Yukon, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walter Northway will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Birchwood Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 21st. As for Fort Yukon, they will challenge Tri-Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fort Yukon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.
