Basketball Recap: Elizabeth Lombardo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rock Falls over Rockford Christian

Rock Falls was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They lost 62-40 to the Rockford Christian Royal Lions. While losing is never fun, the Rockets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 548th, while the Royal Lions are ranked 180th).

Rock Falls lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Elizabeth Lombardo, who posted 14 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Lombardo is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Arianna Reyna, who earned ten points.

Leading Rockford Christian to victory were Lucy Gargani and Shea Ludwig. Gargani went 8 of 9 en route to 20 points and four steals, while Ludwig went 5 for 6 on her way to 15 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Gargani a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Becker, who scored seven points and five assists.

Rock Falls' defeat dropped their record down to 3-21. As for Rockford Christian, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-7.

Rock Falls has already played their next match, a 66-22 loss against Lutheran on the 28th. As for Rockford Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-38 victory against Marengo on the 27th.
