The St. Patrick Fighting Irish will face off against the Perry Central Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Patrick is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, St. Patrick was able to grind out a solid victory over Resurrection Catholic, taking the game 8-4. The Fighting Irish haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Alden Williams was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Chaz Byers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Perry Central had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Pirates.
Masyn Nobles looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Perry Central let Cayson Backstrom and Austin Jones run wild. Backstrom scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Jones scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Jones also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Perry Central is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-11 otherwise. Brandon Sumrall was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.
Perry Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
St. Patrick's victory bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Perry Central, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Patrick has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Perry Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
St. Patrick skirted past Perry Central 1-0 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will the Fighting Irish repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
