Basketball Recap: Perry Takes a Loss

If Perry was feeling good fresh off their 67-21 takedown of New Hampstead last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Perry Panthers fell just short of the Macon County Bulldogs by a score of 54-51 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered since February 5, 2024.

Macon County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Morgan Cochran out in front who went 7 for 14 on her way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. Cochran is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Lake, who posted ten points.

Perry dropped their record down to 12-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Macon County, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

Perry and Macon County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. Perry will square off against Warner Robins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 213 places (223 vs. 10). Similarly, Macon County (ranked 205th) will meet Taylor County (ranked 102nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
