Softball Recap: Southern Guilford Takes a Loss

After some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last four matchups, Southern Guilford finally came back down to earth on Friday. They fell just short of the Rockingham County Cougars by a score of 4-2. The Storm haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Kenly Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Madison Goins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.

Southern Guilford's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Rockingham County, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Guilford will square off against Cornerstone Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cornerstone Charter has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.6 runs per game on average), something Southern Guilford will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rockingham County, they will challenge Ben L. Smith at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rockingham County is facing Ben L. Smith at the right time seeing as Ben L. Smith is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
