Softball Recap: Gregori Takes a Loss

Gregori extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 15-7 in the process. They lost 15-6 to the Central Catholic Raiders. If the Jaguars were looking for revenge after losing 5-1 to the Raiders when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Central Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games.

For Central Catholic's part, they got a great performance from Braelyn Avila as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Avila has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Samantha Nichols was a standout: she fired off three triples, three runs, and two RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three triples gave her a new career-high. Jazmarie Roberts was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Gregori wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 loss against Oakdale on the 26th. As for Central Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-5 victory against Vacaville on the 26th.
