Softball Game Preview: Boyd County Lions vs. Wheelersburg Pirates

The Boyd County Lions will head out on the road to square off against the Wheelersburg Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Boyd County is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Blazer just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tomcats.

Savanna Henderson was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooke Jacobs, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Wheelersburg strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Westfall get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Wheelersburg's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Boyd County, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 16-10.

Boyd County came up short against Wheelersburg in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
