Basketball Recap: Del Valle Skates Past Horizon with Ease

Del Valle won the last time they faced Horizon and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Del Valle Conquistadores blew past the Horizon Scorpions 72-37. Given the Conquistadores' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 520th, while the Scorpions are ranked 1349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jayden Nunez was a one-man wrecking crew for Del Valle as he went 8 for 10 on his way to 16 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Byan Mei, who posted seven points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Del Valle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Del Valle is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points per game. As for Horizon, they dropped their record down to 5-18 with the defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Del Valle will head out to challenge Parkland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Parkland will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Del Valle surely won't give up without a fight. As for Horizon, they will be playing at home against El Dorado at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
