Basketball Recap: Deering's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

If Deering was feeling good fresh off their 82-34 takedown of Massabesic last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Deering Rams took a 67-52 bruising from the Thornton Academy Trojans on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Trojans are ranked ninth).

With the defeat, Deering broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-10. As for Thornton Academy, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deering will challenge Windham at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Thornton Academy, they will take on Oxford Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thornton Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Oxford Hills likes a good challenge.
