Softball Recap: Seven Straight Home Wins for Tunkhannock

There's no place like home for Tunkhannock, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over the Mid Valley Spartans on Saturday. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 5-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

The result came thanks to McKenzie Hannon's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Tunkhannock saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Erin Van Ness, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Tunkhannock pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mid Valley, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 11-1-1.

Tunkhannock and Mid Valley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Tigers (ranked fifth) will meet Williamsport (ranked 155th) at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Mid Valley will square off against Honesdale at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (27 vs. 455).
