Football Recap: Heritage Academy Gateway Piles Up the Points Against American Leadership Academy

Heritage Academy Gateway's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They breezed past American Leadership Academy to the tune of 52-22. Considering the Heroes have won five contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Heritage Academy Gateway's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Axton Leavitt, who rushed for 143 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine carries. Those 143 rushing yards gave Leavitt a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Stratton Ellsworth, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Heritage Academy Gateway was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 403 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American Leadership Academy only rushed for 135.

Heritage Academy Gateway didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Bryant Leavitt and Matthew Thomason.

Despite the loss, American Leadership Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Timothy Lee rushed for 94 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, and also picked up 43 receiving yards and one score.

Heritage Academy Gateway has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.2 points over those games. As for American Leadership Academy, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Coming up, Heritage Academy Gateway is taking a road trip to take on Heritage Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Heritage Academy's defense has only allowed 10.5 points per game this season, so Heritage Academy Gateway's offense will have their work cut out for them. American Leadership Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
