Volleyball Recap: Andrea Alcaraz-Lopez Key Part of Team Effort in Longhorns Win

While Battle Mountain didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Round Mountain Knights by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. The Longhorns were shut out 2-0 the last time they took on the Knights, so the Longhorns were just returning the favor.

Battle Mountain easily took the first set, but they let things get interesting in the other. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-20.

Battle Mountain's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrea Alcaraz-Lopez led the charge by getting 23 digs. Alcaraz-Lopez has been hot, having posted 15 or more digs the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Moore, who had 12 digs and three aces.

Battle Mountain was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in six consecutive matchups.

Battle Mountain's record is now 7-4. As for Round Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Battle Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 2-0 defeat against White Pine on the 23rd. After both having extra time off, Round Mountain and Eureka will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 1:00 p.m. on September 5.
