Baseball Game Preview: Castle Park Trojans vs. Chula Vista Spartans

For the second straight game, Castle Park will face off against Chula Vista. The Trojans will take on the Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Castle Park is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.

Chula Vista hit Castle Park with a seven-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans lost 12-4 to the Spartans.

For Chula Vista's part, Jorge Lopez tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Lopez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Eric Zepeda was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Martinez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Chula Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Chula Vista's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Castle Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.
