Baseball Game Preview: Murphysboro Red Devils vs. Carterville Lions

Murphysboro is 1-8-1 against Carterville since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Red Devils will challenge the Lions at 4:30 p.m. Murphysboro has given up an average of 11.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Murphysboro and Harrisburg had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Red Devils lost 19-3 to the Bulldogs on Friday.

Murphysboro saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Stapel, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Stapel has hit this season.

Meanwhile, Carterville came up short against Massac County on Friday and fell 8-5.

Gavin Johnson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Aidan Gusta was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Carterville's defeat dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Murphysboro, their loss dropped their record down to 3-16.

Murphysboro might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Carterville in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
