Basketball Game Preview: Van Horn Eagles vs. Wink Wildcats

Van Horn is 1-9 against Wink since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Van Horn Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wink Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Van Horn is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since December 6, 2024 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Iraan 28-25. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Wink entered their tilt with Fort Hancock last Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They breezed by the Mustangs to the tune of 73-6. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 50 points per game.

Van Horn better focus on containing Adelynn Thompson and Aizlyn Dewberry as the pair were huge in Wink's win. Thompson went 12 for 19 on her way to 27 points, while Dewberry went 8 of 9 en route to 16 points in addition to seven boards and six steals. Thompson's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Delaney Dodd-Fernandes, who posted eight points along with five assists and five steals.

Wink smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive games.

Wink has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 17-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.2 points per game. As for Van Horn, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
