Basketball Recap: Wallkill Panthers vs. Saugerties Sawyers
Wallkill lost against Saugerties back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Wallkill Panthers lost to the Saugerties Sawyers at home by a 66-48 margin. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alex Marshall, who posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Moses Hunter, who put up seven points and three steals.
Saugerties was led to victory by Mccoy Rothe and Jack Parisio. Rothe had 23 points and three steals, while Parisio dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Rothe's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jahmia Snyder was another key player, putting up five points.
Wallkill's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Saugerties, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Wallkill and Chester will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chester will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Wallkill surely won't give up without a fight. As for Saugerties, they will welcome New Paltz at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. New Paltz knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Saugerties likes a good challenge.
