Basketball Game Preview: Vanguard Academy Rembrandt Spartans vs. IDEA Pharr

After both having extra time off, the Vanguard Academy Rembrandt Spartans and IDEA Pharr will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Vanguard Academy Rembrandt has three straight victories, IDEA Pharr has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Vanguard Academy Rembrandt is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Idea Academy: they outscored them in every quarter. Vanguard Academy Rembrandt was the clear victor by a 60-40 margin over Idea Academy last Monday. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Vanguard Academy Rembrandt can attribute much of their success to Gael Cortez, who posted 12 points in addition to five assists and five boards. That's the most assists Cortez has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Gilardo Perez, who put up 15 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, IDEA Pharr might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting IDEA Edinburg College Prep an easy 44-21 win.

IDEA Pharr's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Vanguard Academy Rembrandt, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.

Vanguard Academy Rembrandt took their win against IDEA Pharr in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 58-35. Does Vanguard Academy Rembrandt have another victory up their sleeve, or will IDEA Pharr turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
