Soccer Game Preview: Charlotte Christian vs. Cannon

The Charlotte Christian Knights will challenge the Cannon Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Charlotte Christian has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 4.

Charlotte Christian managed to keep up with Providence Day until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Knights lost 5-0 to the Chargers. While losing is never fun, Charlotte Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 198th, while Providence Day are ranked first).

Meanwhile, Cannon hadn't done well against Covenant Day recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was the Cougars who were credited with the win. Cannon got it done in the shootout by posting three goals to Covenant Day's one. The game was the first time Cannon have beaten Covenant Day on their pitch since April 29, 2021.

Cannon moved to 7-9-2 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Charlotte Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

Charlotte Christian suffered a grim 4-1 defeat to Cannon when the teams last played back in April. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
