Softball Recap: Mountainburg Takes a Loss

Mountainburg extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 0-7. They came up short against the Westside Rebels, falling 17-0. If the Dragons were looking for revenge after losing 12-5 to the Rebels when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Westside, they moved to 5-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Westside's part, Torie Nobles made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Nobles has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Westside got a massive performance out of Ayla Highfill, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and three doubles. That's the most runs Highfill has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Cato, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Mountainburg will welcome Acorn at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Westside, they are taking a road trip to square off against Hector at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rebels will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least ten runs in their last six games.
