Basketball Recap: Rockingham County Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Rockingham County duked it out with Dudley on Friday. The Rockingham County Cougars took a hard 75-61 fall against the Dudley Panthers. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost eight in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Rockingham County lost, don't look at Dalton 'Dynamite' Johnson. Despite the final result, he posted 22 points along with five assists and three steals. That was a full 36.1% of Rockingham County's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Nick Rumbley was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Rockingham County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Dudley was led to victory by Cortney 'CJ' Jones and Carlos 'CJ' Neely. Jones went 11 for 18 en route to 27 points, while Neely almost dropped a triple-double with 16 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. Jones' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Foxx, who put up 13 points and five boards.

Rockingham County's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Dudley, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-6.

Looking ahead, Rockingham County will square off against Northeast Guilford at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Dudley, they will challenge Southern Guilford at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Dudley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 games.
