Baseball Recap: Kalama Comes Up Short

Kalama had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-12 to make it 11. They came up short against the La Center Wildcats, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Tuesday.

Kalama saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Talan Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for La Center, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games.

On La Center's side, Gunnar Schockelt was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Schockelt has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Wyatt Brannan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Fuller, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kalama will face off against Toledo at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for La Center, they will challenge Overlake at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Owls' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
