Baseball Game Preview: Westerly Bulldogs vs. South Kingstown Rebels

Westerly is 0-3 against South Kingstown since May of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Bulldogs will take on the Rebels at 5:00 p.m. Westerly will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.

Westerly is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Chariho, who was ranked 21st at the time (Westerly was ranked sixth). The Bulldogs never let the Chargers get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Saturday. Four seems to be a good number for the Bulldogs as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Westerly saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zack Miner, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Grayson Simmons, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Meanwhile, South Kingstown waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Falcons. That's two games straight that the Rebels have won by just one run.

Jonah Monnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Westerly pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for South Kingstown, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.

Westerly came up short against South Kingstown when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
