Washington Township and Westville are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Senators will face off against the Blackhawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Washington Township is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Elkhart Christian Academy 23-6 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Senators.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Westville walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 20-3 margin over the Tigers on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Blackhawks, who have now won four contests in a row.
Miranda Sparks and Kierstin Vargas were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Sparks pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Vargas tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. At bat, Sparks went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Vargas fired off two home runs, five RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. What's more, Vargas posted two runs, the most she's had over her last 11 games.
In other batting news, Lily Green and Addison Chontos did most of the damage at the plate: Green went 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double, while Chontos went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Chontos has posted since back in April of 2024. Molly O'Brien was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Washington Township's win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Westville, their victory bumped their record up to 17-5.
Washington Township might still be hurting after the 12-4 loss they got from Westville in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Senators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
