Softball Recap: Madison Central Comes Up Short

Madison Central extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-5 in the process. They came up short against the McGraw Eagles, falling 16-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-1 on Thursday.

As for McGraw, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For McGraw's part, Abigail Lakie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Lakie was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, McGraw let Josslyn Eaton and Leah Terwilliger run wild. Eaton went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Terwilliger got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. With that strong performance, Terwilliger is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Bristol Eastman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Madison Central will welcome New York Mills at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils are facing the Marauders at the right time seeing as the Marauders are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for McGraw, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Homer at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
