The Lake Ridge Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Aledo Bearcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last three games Lake Ridge has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Lake Ridge didn't have quite enough to beat Weatherford and fell 2-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Kangaroos: they've now lost three in a row.
Lake Ridge got a good showing from Cannon Day, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Day has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lake Ridge saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Yates, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Aledo had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rough Riders a 13-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bearcats, who have now won seven games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Aledo also got a great performance from Devin Miller as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Miller a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lucas Nawrocki, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, one triple, and one run. Luke Trager also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Aledo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saginaw only posted an OBP of .118.
Aledo's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11-3.
Lake Ridge couldn't quite finish off Aledo when the teams last played back in April of 2023 and fell 2-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
