Baseball Game Preview: Linden Lions vs. Summerville Bears

The Linden Lions are taking a road trip to take on the Summerville Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Linden will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Linden and Bret Harte had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Lions walked away with a 5-0 win over the Bullfrogs on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by exactly five runs.

Bret Harte's batters probably weren't too happy with Matthew Schallberger, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up zero walks). Schallberger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dax Weber, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Jonah Craven was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Summerville's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Calaveras.

Linden's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Summerville, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11-1.

Everything went Linden's way against Summerville in their previous matchup back in March, as Linden made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
