Basketball Game Preview: Jarrell Cougars vs. Gateway College Preparatory Gators

The Jarrell Cougars will face off against the Gateway College Preparatory Gators at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Jarrell has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Gateway College Preparatory will arrive with three straight wins.

Jarrell is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2024 on Friday. They took a blow against Lampasas, falling 80-48. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1120th, while the Badgers are ranked 450th).

Meanwhile, Gateway College Preparatory won against Taylor on Tuesday with 63 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Gateway College Preparatory had just enough and edged Marble Falls out 63-61.

Jarrell's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Gateway College Preparatory, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Jarrell was able to grind out a solid victory over Gateway College Preparatory in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 61-51. Will Jarrell repeat their success, or does Gateway College Preparatory have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
